Portrait of Mariana Sánchez

About the artist

Mariana Sánchez

A Colombian-American painter and printmaker working between the figurative and the representational.

Artist statement

I paint the rooms and objects that memory keeps returning to: a glass on a table, flowers that never stood still, two women sharing a couch and a silence. Working between observation and invention, I let color carry heat, tenderness, and the small distortions of remembering. Each work is less a record of how something looked than of how it insisted on being felt.
